Shire fans make their way to open day for the ‘gentle giants’

HUNDREDS of fans of the gentle giants, the Shire horses, made their way to the Hurst Green Shires, a hacking and driving centre based on the outskirts of Oxted and Westerham and specialising in preserving and promoting the breed.
One way of doing that is its open day.
The centre offers a variety of hacking and driving experiences, along with experience days, own a shire days, and corporate days and the open day when everyone can get up close and personal with the big horses.
Along with teas, coffees, cakes, the odd stall or two, and the Titsey Brewing Company, the Hurst Green Shires open day is always a crowd puller.
Youngsters can get to climb aboard a Shire and watch demonstrations to get to know more about the breed.
