Godstonebury: the family friendly festival

the whiskey soursTHE Godstonebury festival is back at the the Orpheus Centre near Godstone, on Saturday, September 1, for a family friendly acoustic festival from 12-9pm.

The one day event will feature live music, two stages, kids zone, performance area, arts and crafts stalls, a wide variety of food and of course a beer tent! The festival will celebrate the Orpheus Centre’s 20th anniversary with a wide range of music and workshops

Rising star JJ Leone, “Dark Soul” singer-songwriter, is looking forward to performing his seductive new release, “Silver Lining”.

Oxted-based local vintage trio The Whiskey Sours will be there along with multi-instrumentalist Orpheus tutor Nick Pynn who will be performing on a variety of instruments including five string violin, guitars, mountain dulcimer, mandocello and banjo whilst his feet live-loop and play bass pedals. Nick has also performed as a sideman with many musicians and comedians over the years, including Stewart Lee, Arthur Brown, Boothby Graffoe, B*Witched, Steve Harley, Mike Heron (Incredible String Band), Beverley Martyn, Otis Lee Crenshaw (Rich Hall) and Omid Djalili.

Steve Bingham is another one the bill, internationally renowned for his solo violin recitals, where he mixes acoustic pieces with live-looped electric violin arrangements in his own unique way.

The Voodoo Tweed Cult Of Your Mum will be playing a mash-up of fast paced, folk-polka-punk covers and originals and Al Murray The Pub Landlord’s house band since 2013, the Charley Farley Sunday Four, will be playing their unique reworkings of popular songs in a swing/skiffle style.

Also to be seen and heard will be indie folk outfit The Lost Cavalry, Oxted acoustic band Ayalon, singer songwriter Jamie Bull, inclusive choir Include, Orpheus alumni and more, with further acts to be announced.

Godstonebury is not just about the music – there will be lots of workshops and activities to take part in including belly dance, drumming circle, arts and crafts, massage, henna and body art.
