Members of the Keep Westerham Green Residents Group (KWGRG) were outside Westerham Hall to show the strength of feeling there is in the community about the Sevenoaks District Council Draft Local Plan and in particular the proposals of Which Way Westerham, led by Henry Warde of Squerryes Estate.
The KWGRG has long been in opposition to the Which Way Westerham (WWW) scheme for houses and a relief road and the Group members were showing their thoughts as Westerham Town Council hosted a public meeting to share its Draft Plan consultation response and gather final comments from residents before the District Council deadline for feedback.
Jenny Cowan, chairman of the KWGRG said: “ Feelings among residents are running high. There are well over 120 comments against WWW on the District Council online portal.
“There are no exceptional circumstances, as Which Way Westerham’ claims. Westerham doesn’t need a bypass or hundreds more houses on Green Belt land. This would make local traffic much worse. The 18 years of heavy lorries and disruption would kill trade and tourism in the town.
“Sevenoaks District Council needs to listen to a community that has already made it clear that it doesn’t need any of this. “
