After touring Kent Libraries, Sevenoaks Museum, Allington Castle and Lullingstone Castle, an exhibition marking the 800th anniversary of the reinstatement of Stephen Langton as Archbishop of Canterbury, completing the story of the saving of Magna Carta, is at Westerham Library until October 6.

It outlines the part played by Sir Thomas de Canville of Westerham in helping to secure the revival of the Charter which King John had revoked within weeks of sealing it at Runnymede. The King thereby tipped England into a bitter civil war.

The exhibition was created for Westerham’s St Mary’s Church by local resident David Boston, supported by The Magna Carta Trust
