Various organisations in the Oxted area have worked together to help St Gracious Primary School, near Entebbe, Uganda.

Last October, Anne Lotter from Project Le Monde was guest speaker at Oxted One World Group’s agm, and she mentioned that Project Le Monde was looking for surplus school uniforms for schools in Uganda and subsequently visited Downsway and St Mary’s schools.

As a result enough uniforms, plimsolls and school bags were collected at the end of the summer term to fill 30 packing cases which were donated by a local removals firm.

The pupils and parents of Downsway and St Mary’s schools, together with a Rotary contribution raised a total of £569 towards the overall £1215 total shipping costs, whilst the congregation of Oxted United Reformed Church donated £414 with the balance being made up from money raised by the Oxted One World Group.

The school uniforms can now be shipped to Uganda.
