As Lingfield residents continue to furrow their brows and scratch their heads, Tesco has confirmed it will be opening a store in the village.
The supermarket giant was supposed to be launching a new outlet – thought to be a TescoExpress – earlier this year at the village’s former Old Cage pub which closed its doors three years ago .
However, little has happened on site and many residents have been asking what is happening.
Answers have been provided by Tesco local communications manager Tom Nicholson who says: “ I can confirm that Tesco is committed to opening a store in Lingfield. There have been delays in the development of the site and we are very grateful to the local community for their continued patience.
“We are currently working to finalise our development timetable and although I am unable to confirm an opening date at this stage, we hope to start work in the next few months.
“We take our responsibilities as a good neighbour very seriously so we will be sure to be proactive in keeping the local community updated going forward.”
