People living in Tandridge can find out more about how community led housing could help to provide more affordable homes in their communities, at free events in Godstone on Wednesday, November 28 and in Lingfield on Thursday, November 29 .
Community led housing is quickly gaining momentum across the country with a rapidly growing number of successful schemes delivering affordable homes for local people which are not for profit.
Surrey Community Housing Partnership is inviting people living in Tandridge to come along to the informal workshop which will explore the support, resources and funding available to help communities lead their own housing developments in Surrey.
The Surrey Community Housing Partnership was formed by Elmbridge, Epsom & Ewell, Guildford, Mole Valley, Surrey Heath, Tandridge, Waverley and Woking district and borough councils to promote and support community led housing in Surrey and is led by local charity, Surrey Community Action.
Community led housing can take many different forms but basically, it’s built by the community to meet the needs of the community. It can include:
Community Land Trusts (CLTs), community controlled groups that can develop permanently affordable housing.
Self-build groups where groups build their houses together, sharing skills and trades and knowledge
Cohousing which combines private dwellings with shared communal facilities.
